VOID Presents: Lost Frequencies - Return to THE D

Posted on Mar 20th, 2009 by The Family Umbrella : Toronto Techno Collective The Family Umbrella

It has certainly been a busy week here in FU-land.  The March Break Full Day Sessions at WestsideWax DJ School are going swimmingly, with first-time students already expressing interest in buying their own setups and delving deeper into the craft!  That's what we love to hear from our DJs - passion and dedication!

We've also been working with our good friend Rouchos to get a collaborative event on the go, and even though it's short notice by promoter standards, we've put something together that we believe will light a fire under the feet of Toronto Techno lovers.  Here's the scoop:

Main Entry: void
Pronunciation: \ˈvȯid\
Function: adjective, noun

1. Empty, a gap or opening, waiting to be filled
with deep, dark and dirty sound
in every corner of a hot and hazy nocturnal cavern,
sound that moves you like no other,
sound of Detroit,
sound of Berlin,
sound of Stockholm,
sound of Tokyo,
sound that used to be Toronto sound (once lost, now found),
120-140 BPM rollercoaster storytellers,
if you can’t move to our sound then your legs must be broke,
sound of the 808, sound of the 303, sound of the 909,
classic sounds, jacking sounds, new sounds, party sounds,
sounds to fill in the void.

VOID Presents - Lost Frequencies - Return To The D

Detroit - not a genre of music, but a feeling.
Rhythmic, percussive, melodic, harmonious, atonal,
industrial man-machine funk.
Electro-shock coursing through your veins.
Once an integral part of Toronto’s electronic music scene, Detroit-styles have been conspicuously absent for far too long.
This is where we come in…

Opening Salvo: Back-To-Back Battle For Techno, Electro and House Music Supremacy!

Andreas Marouchos

(http://www.groovetech.com/rouchos, Energy 105.1 Radio)

Trace an arc from the sunny beaches of Cyprus to
the shallow sidestreets of Detroit and Windsor
and now to Toronto - the man simply known as “Rouchos”
has been energizing dancefloors with innovative,
improvised mayhem-on-wax for over a decade.
His 3 deck sets pan from chunky but funky Tech-House/Bleepy Electro/Tribal-Tech to fast and banging,
fulfilling the needs of a thrilled audience
lusting after a well-crafted journey through
fluid, functional Techno. Prepare to be spoiled.

WestsideWax
(PivotTechno, http://thefamilyumbrella.gaia.com)

Once a crate-lugging, globetrotting mercenary,
the anomaly known as WestsideWax came back to home roost and has sat quietly and patiently in the background for a number
of years, quietly assimilating a DJ career that began in the mid-1980s into packaging suitable for today’s
discriminating dancefloor freak.
Tripped out, tricked out, Motor City, Chi-town
and all shades in between, knocked out in a
fader-cutting, frequency-tweaking,
low-end massage that will leave you resonating
at a higher state of bounce-more-booty-to-the-ounce…
