A few reviews from Lost Frequencies - RETURN TO THE D

Posted on Apr 1st, 2009 by The Family Umbrella : Toronto Techno Collective The Family Umbrella

From the reviews forum on Tribe Magazine's Message Board:

---------

Just got back from a full-on Techno assault hosted by Void at Yauca Sports Bar - a heretofore unheard of little spot on Dundas W. The boys, Rouchos and WestsideWax, rented a Dynacord system for the night and the place was pumpin! I’ve heard Dynacord in action at larger venues but this was the first time I’ve heard it used in a smaller space. I would’ve liked to have arrived earlier for the soundcheck just to see how the rig can be configured…

Yauca is like most bars in the west-end, long and narrow. However, with 2 floors of dancing this place has promise - I think I saw a flyer advertising a free DnB weekly there on Fridays….

Over the course of a couple of hours I was treated to a great cross-section of techno expertly mixed on 3 decks with real honest-to-god vinyl!

That was fun
The venue is GREAT
I really enjoyed alternating between the two floors
More there, please!

Headed off to this one since it was so close and for the DJs.

When I got there WestSideWax was spinning. Layering up nice tracks and making people holler. Nice tricks, tight mixing, and good tunes. A techno veteran.  Rouchos took over and played some songs I haven't heard in a while. Banged it out 3 decks style with maximum trickery and FX that had the ADD kid in me satisfied.

Well done the two of you.

The sound system was decent and certainly filled the space. Looking forward to more of this.  Good to see some old folks out as well as some new ones.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, and our undying gratitude to everyone who made it out to the inaugural VOID event! we're really pleased with the turnout and the response we've received and are already making plans for our next venture, PATTERNS, which is scheduled for April 18, 2009 - stay tuned for details! Here are a few pictures that T took over the course of the night, perfectly capturing the deep & dark essence of the Detroit sound that we love so much!

We also recorded most of the night and will have the audio archived on FU soon!
