FU Recommends: DJ T-1000 @ The Basement, August 15, 2009

Posted on Aug 9th, 2009 by The Family Umbrella : Toronto Techno Collective The Family Umbrella

It isn't too often that we give the nod to events in this city - but then again, it isn't too often that we get such a class lineup of Detroit and Toronto veterans playing under one roof:

DJ T-1000 a.k.a. Alan Oldham, DJ, producer, one time Minister of Information for seminal Detroit Tech label Underground Resistance and artwork and label designer for both Transmat Records and Djax-Up-Beats), promoter and Hijacked Records boss Antwon "Twonz" Faulkner, Derrick "Dez" Ramirez,  who hosted the killer Detor parties in Detroit and various southern Ontario locales in the 1990s, and Kenny Glasgow, a Toronto veteran and now an established producer with his No. 19 label.  A respectable lineup for Toronto Techno lovers across the board and the kind that is becoming more and more prevalent as Toronto once again warms up to sounds that were once a staple in this city.  Definitely worth checking.

WestsideWax @ MonoMachina's DEATH DISCO - August 22 at Nocturne

Posted on Aug 9th, 2009 by The Family Umbrella : Toronto Techno Collective The Family Umbrella

MonoMachina raises the bar on Saturday, August 22 with DEATH DISCO, a night of curiously delicious beats, courtesy of your choice, all-local lineup...

PAs:

Fiction
(http://www.myspace.com/fiction1)

Delivering your dose of demented Breakbeat for the evening, Fiction returns to the spotlight after having launched the SexDrumsAndBrokenSouls LP at Holy Joe's earlier this year. Breakbeat fans old and new won't want to miss out on this special live performance!

Alltronic
(http://www.myspace.com/alltronic)

Self-described as a cross between DJ Premier and Kraftwerk, Alltronic swims in the deep end of the Electro/Breakbeat pool, texturing bubbling synths and rumbling bass into headspace music with B-Boy attitude, designed to work both body and soul.

Touchboy
(http://www.myspace.com/touchboy)

A veteran of the Chiptune posse, Touchboy's focus lies in mastering the art of merging various lo-fi videogame bleeps, bloops and melodies with an arsenal of effects and slick drum programming in a Techno/Electro bent. The result of this alchemy is a highly funky and danceable lifeform that you'll need to witness in person to fully appreciate!

DJs:

WestsideWax
(http://thefamilyumbrella.gaia.com/)

Quiet and understated on the outside, described as "the Buddha behind the decks", this 25-year DJ veteran reveals his deep, dark and nasty side upon firing up three turntables, assualting dancefloors with a heady cocktail of classic Chi-town, Motor City and tricky-tracky, funked out mayhem.

Amanda Astra
(http://www.myspace.com/amandaastra)

Quickly gaining ground in Toronto's notoriously fickle club scene, Amanda Astrid has graced the likes of Footwork and The Gallery at Guvernment and now brings a dirty slapdown of House and Techno to round off the Nocturne roster.
